London - Canary Wharf

25 Cabot Square, Canary Wharf

25 Cabot Square is one of the smaller buildings in the Canary Wharf complex, but its imposing position and slightly "retro skyscraper" make it one of the most striking for me. Here is the view down Middle Dock, with the 1 Canary Wharf and Citibank buildings in view. 25 Cabot Square was designed by architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and completed in 1991.

Canary Wharf: the South Dock Buildings from the South Quay footbridge. The sun is glinting from the South Quay complex. Although the City of London also has several major skyscrapers, and in very varied styles, it is Canary Wharf that most concentrates one area of consistently modern architecture, with no older buildings impeding, obscuring or being dwarfed by the recent developments. Whether or not that is your thing, it is certainly impressive - a great place to photograph!

The Quay Club, Canary Wharf

The Quay Club occupies a lightweight five storey aluminium building built out over the Middle Dock. The pedestrian walkway along Bank Street passes through a colonnade under the building, which is strikingly mirrored on the ceiling and wall. This shot shows the end wall, with one window open.

1 Canada Square reflected in 25 Bank Street

25 Bank Street is the current European HQ of JP Morgan, having had a slightly unfortunate sequence of putative and actual tenants in Enron and Lehman Brothers. Designed, like 1 Canada Square, seen in reflection, by César Pelli, the building is 153m tall.

1 Canada Square

1 Canada Square When people say Canary Wharf, this pyramid-topped building is what they often mean. Designed by César Pelli, it is the third highest building in the UK. The front entrance oozes power and wealth. A large and very ugly vehicle was parked at the left when I took this shot, and I took the liberty of losing it by echoing the pillars on the right. The motorbike I wanted to keep!
