A view from the city walls, Dubrovnik, Croatia. A stunning day in one of Europe's most spectacular cities.
Ljubljana, the little capital city of Slovenia, is one of the most charming city visits in the former Yugoslavia. Beautiful baroque buildings crowd around the river with its multiple bridges. Prešeren Square is central, with the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation facing across it to the Triple Bridge. This fisheye shot attempts to catch both the space and the energy of the town.
Few towns have more instantly recognisable jumbles of roofs than Dubrovnik. It isn't a coincidence that the colour is pretty consistent either: the civil war at the end of Yugoslavia saw a bombardment here that left hardly a tile intact. Vast sums were poured into the restoration, and all the tiles came from France, where several tile manufacturers in Toulouse worked jointly to fulfil the $9m contract.
