Residents in a rundown area of Funchal, the capital of Madeira, decided to brighten up their neighbourhood by painting their doors, and the area has since become a thriving tourist attraction. This image is a composite of many individual images of some of those doors.
In 2011 around Bristol city centre and surrounding areas, 61 life-sized decorated fibreglass gorillas were placed, and displayed for several weeks. The project was sponsored by Bristol Zoo, to highlight the very serious extinction threat facing primates in the wild, and also to celebrate the 150th birthday of the zoo. At the end of the display period the gorillas were auctioned for charity. This image shows a selection of some of the gorilla figures.
