Fu Sculpture with Buddhist Prayer Wheels in Background, Kathmandu, Nepal

Fu are Chinese Guardian Lions, placed outside buildings to protect them. This stone fu is protecting a small courtyard temple. Behind the statue are three prayer wheels. The wheels have the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum on the outside, and are filled with pieces of paper on which further mantras are written. Spinning the wheel in a clockwise direction earns the same merit at saying the mantra hundreds of times.

The Path to Thorung Phedi, Annapurna Circuit, Himalayas, Nepal

The undeniable highpoint - literally and figuratively - of the Annapurna Circuit is the high pass of Thorung La, which reaches the dizzy heights of 5416 metres above sea level. To reach the base camp at Thorung Phedi, where you will rest for the night before attempting the pass, you must traverse huge slopes of shale by way of a narrow path.
