One of the popular castles to visit when you are travelling on the NC500. Unless you want to look inside the castle or gardens, you don't have to pay, just walk down the side of the castle to the beach. This is where this photo was taken from.
A loop you can do when driving the North Coast 500, is to take the coastal road round to Applecross. It is really worth it, such a lovely drive with great photo opportunities such as this one.

A short but stunning walk on the Isle of Skye, one of our favourites, takes you to the Fairy Pools. The Cuillin mountains dominate the background making a stunning backdrop for the pools themselves.
Knoydart is the most remote place in Scotland, only accessible by either the sea (boat) or by walking in. Inverie is the tiny village where we stayed for 5 nights.

A classic drive in Autumn in Perthshire is through Glen Lyon, with its canopies of foliage and twists & turns
Taken in winter, with just a light dusting of snow on the top of the hills. This was taken looking up the loch from Kenmore, with Ben Lawers visible on the right. The water was very still and made for a lovely reflection of the hills and little island.
the colours were incredible, even better on this particular evening we were staying overnight at the Lake Hotel and from our room we could wander out along the shoreline to watch and photograph one of the best sunsets we have ever seen.
Taken in November on a still calm day, we were lucky to get a great reflection of the castle in the still water of the loch.

Probably the best short hike in Scotland, is the hike up Stac Pollaidh, with its magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. About 3 hours round trip at a leisurely pace.

The views from this short hike are really stunning, looking over the other Assynt mountains, you can see for miles
This is an excellent short(ish) hillwalk if you are doing the NC500 route and have time. The views both looking up to this small mountain, and looking out from it are stunning. This photo was taken in November, as you can see it was a really nice day for a hike!
