Nick Jenkins | Chepstow Castle in South Wales

Chepstow Castle in South Wales

Chepstow Castle in South Wales on a bright sunny March day. This is not the usual view seen of this amazing castle as seen from the car park, but spotted during an exploratory walk to seek out a different viewpoint. I thing this angle shows off the power and size of Chepstow Castle to a much greater effect. With a very interesting and lively history Chepstow Castle is well worth a visit!

Nick Jenkins | Kidwelly Castle Carmarthenshire

Kidwelly Castle Carmarthenshire

Kidwelly (or, in Welsh, Cydweli) Castle in Carmarthenshire on a sunny June day. A popular and frequently visited castle it was built on a high ridge for obvious reasons and looks down to and all around the small town of Kidwelly. Well worth a visit both inside (albeit there will be commercial photography restrictions) and outside/underneath along the footpath following the stream in the valley below. That way you can photograph to your heart's content.
Nick Jenkins | Ogmore Castle at Ogmore by Sea South Wales

Ogmore Castle at Ogmore by Sea South Wales

Ogmore Castle, or more precisely the ruins of Ogmore Castle at Ogmore by Sea, on the River Ewenny, in South Wales on a sunny February. Whilst there is a 'very interesting' car park here (little room and a tidal river!) the castle, in the western section of the Vale of Glamorgan is well worth an explore. The river Ewenny runs alongside it with some rather fun stepping stones across it.

Ogmore Castle Ogmore By Sea South Wales

Ogmore Castle Ogmore By Sea South Wales in February. In quite a ruined state it is nevertheless eye-catching as can be its reflection in the nearby river.
Nick Jenkins | Beaupre Castle near Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan, south Wales

Beaupre Castle near Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan, south Wales

Beaupre Castle near Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan, south Wales. The castle, more of a defensive manor house really, is near Cowbridge and stands surrounded by farmland. It is now a ruin and accessible via footpath - free to enter - and is well worth a visit - look out especially for the stone artwork above the main entrance!

Manorbier Castle Pembrokeshire

Manorbier Castle Pembrokeshire West Wales. This Norman castle is all but actually on the beach! Privately owned, and where Gerald of Wales was born, it is well worth a visit.
Nick Jenkins | Carreg Cennen Castle Brecon Beacons

Carreg Cennen Castle Brecon Beacons

The remote fortress of Carreg Cennen Castle, in the western Brecon Beacons, Carmarthenshire, near the tiny hamlet/village of Trapp. What a place to build a castle, overlooking a steep limestone cliff. This remote fortification has a very interesting history and, for me, always looks at its best from this viewpoint.

Stone Lion on the outside wall of Cardiff Castle

A beautifully carved stone lion 'guarding' Cardiff Castle on a wall. The castle was refurbished lavishly by the Bute family and this is just a small part of their legacy to the capital city of Wales

Tintern Abbey in the Wye Valley Monmouthshire

Tintern Abbey in the Wye Valley Monmouthshire on a sunny and cloudy Spring day. Tintern is beautifully situated alongside the river Wye (which is the border between England and Wales). This was photographed using a very wide angle lens to get it all in and show it off to its very best.
