The wreck of the Norwegian barque SS Nornen on Berrow beach, Somerset.

The SS Nornen, a Norwegian barque, ran aground on March 3, 1897, after being caught in a gale that swept it onto the sands near Burnham. Its crew and ship’s dog were rescued by the crew of the Burnham lifeboat but the hull of the ship still lies there on Berrow beach. Its bare timbers pointing skywards fail to give a feel of what a beautiful sailing ship she once was.
