A Peaceful Place

Springtime by the Norsworthy Bridge in the Dartmoor National Park. The River Meavy flows beneath the bridge on its way to the Burrator Reservoir. This stone bridge is in the beautiful Burrator area of Dartmoor and forms part of the road that circumnavigates the reservoir - a popular route to walk, jog, and cycle. This is a lovely spot to sit for a while just enjoying the tranquility and sound of the water splashing over the rocks.

Huckworthy Bridge on the River walkham on Dartmoor

Huckworthy Bridge is in the pretty little hamlet of Huckworthy near Walkhampton in the Dartmoor National Park. This is a delightful area of the moor and it is easy to feel envious of the people who live in this charming hamlet. The lovely stone bridge is very narrow and has to be negotiated carefully when driving your car, and the roads approaching it are very narrow. But of course, this means not much traffic passes this way, so makes it a very peaceful location. This photo was taken on a beautiful winters day in February, with the sunlight showing the bridge and houses by the river at their best.

Old pack-horse bridge on Dartmoor

This is Leather Tor Bridge over the River Meavy in the Dartmoor National Park. In years gone by it was used as a pack-horse bridge for travelers and farmers. These days, it is used mainly by hikers, cyclists, and horse riders - also ponies and sheep that roam freely over the moor. Other than farm vehicles, road vehicles have no access to it.
