Dartmoor Memorial

This is the Cave-Penney Memorial erected in memory of a local soldier who was killed in the First World War. It is situated on the lower slopes of Corndon Down in the Dartmoor National Park, high above Dartmeet. Being close to the road, it attracts many visitors. The inscription below the cross reads: To the glory of God And to the dear memory of Evelyn Anthony Cave-Penney Lieut. Q.V.O. Corps of Guides Fell in Palestine whilst Gallantly commanding his men June 8th 1918, aged 19 Look up and lift up your heads.
