Red Squirrel Portrait

Red Squirrel Portrait

This is a young red squirrel feeding at woodland at Derwent Reservoir in Northumberland. Over the years the red squirrel has been in decline in many parts of Great Britain due to the introduction of the American Grey which brought along with it pox that our native red could not overcome and almost wiped them out. Now with the introduction of conservation and control over the grey squirrel, the reds are making a come back and can be found in Scotland, Northumberland and the Lake District in particular.
