Ynysangharad Park Pontypridd South Wales
Ynysangharad Park in Pontypridd, south Wales. The two statues are of Evan James and James James. In July 1930, the memorial to Evan James (1809-1878) and James James (1833-1902), the Pontypridd father and son who composed the iconic Welsh National Anthem Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (‘Land of My Fathers’) was revealed. The famous Brecon Beacons Eucalyptus Tree in the Central Beacons Wales
A solitary eucalyptus tree in the Brecon Beacons National Park with Pen y Fan behind. The tree adds to the surrounding landscape, and can catch you unawares when you see it. It is just off the road from Penferyn to the A470 and Beacons Reservoir.Dunraven Bay on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast south Wales
Dunraven Bay, or Southerndown Beach, on a December Morning on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, south Wales. The beach is a very popular one with swimmers, dog walkers and locals. The beach and its surroundings have been awarded the SSSI award, Site of Special Scientific Interest. This is mostly due to the presence of some very interesting rocks and rock formationsStunted Oak Tree at Wistmans Wood in the Dartmoor National Park
An Ancient Stunted Oak tree in Wistmans Wood on Dartmoor. It is believed this is the highest location of stunted oks trees in a woodland area in the UK. Almost 2 miles up strteam from the Two Brides hotel, this wood is largely protected but it is possible to enter and explore the trees, boulders and mosses.Reflections in the Llwyn Onn Reservoir Brecon Beacons
A very calm and windless morning produced this clear reflection of trees in the Llwyn Onn Reservoir in the Brecon Beacons, south Wales. This lasted for about 20 minutes before clouds rolled over. For this shot I used a long lens camera to get in close. The beach on the Ogmore By Sea coast in South Wales
The beach at Ogmore by Sea on the South Wales Coast on a bright winter day in January. The beach is within the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, and sits in the Vale of Glamorgan. Very popular with local people, and dog walkers, the beach is much frequented. The view is out to sea with a glimpse of Porthcawl off to the right.Nash Point Beach on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast in South Wales
Nash Point Beach on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, South Wales, showing the limestone rocks and the locally well known Sphinx Rock, the high cliff near the centre of the shot. Also known as Marcross Beach, it is rocky and pebble ridden but once down on the flat rocks the views either side on a low tide are amazing!Tintern Abbey in the Wye Valley Monmouthshire
Tintern Abbey in the Wye Valley Monmouthshire on a sunny and cloudy Spring day. Tintern is beautifully situated alongside the river Wye (which is the border between England and Wales). This was photographed using a very wide angle lens to get it all in and show it off to its very best.Pen y Fan and Corn Du in the Brecon Beacons National Park in winter
Pen y Fan and Corn Du in the Central Brecon Beacons National Park under snow, south Wales. This viewpoint is from Mynydd Illtyd Common, behind the Brecon Beacons Mountain Centre and gives a clear view of both Pen y Fan and Corn Du. I loved the drama in the clouds above the hills too - trying to match the white of the snow. A beautiful Brecon Beacons landscape.St Justinian's and Lifeboat Station Pembrokeshire Coast
St Justinian's and Lifeboat Station on the north Pembrokeshire Coast on a sunny Spring May day. This beautiful old lifeboat station has recently been replaced with a more modern station to the left of the photograph. The island in the distance is Ramsey, separated from the mainland by a dangerous stretch of water called the Bitches..Silver Birch Tree Hodge Close Quarry Lake District
Silver Birch Tree Hodge Close Quarry Lake District in May. This remote valley off the road from Ambleside to Coniston has a surprise at the end - Hodge Close Quarry - with lots to explore and photograph here. TAKE CARE - the quarry sides are very steep and dangerous.Arthur's Stone on the Cefn Bryn Ridge early winter evening Gower
Arthur's Stone on the Cefn Bryn Ridge early winter evening on Gower South Wales. The old story has it that King Arthur, returning from a battle in Carmarthenshire, was irritated by a stone in his shoe. He removed the stone and threw it and here is where it landed. In fact it is an ancient neolithic burial chamber.Chepstow Castle in Chepstow, South Wales
Chepstow Castle in South Wales on a bright sunny March day. This is not the usual view seen of this amazing castle as seen from the car park, but spotted during an exploratory walk to seek out a different viewpoint. I thing this angle shows off the power and size of Chepstow Castle to a much greater effect. With a very interesting and lively history Chepstow Castle is well worth a visit! It is the second largest castle in the UK, pipped by Windsor Castle.Chepstow Castle South Wales

Achnahaird Bay near Ullapool on the Coigach peninsula on a moody and sunny day in October. This area if Scotland is one of the most rugged, remote and beautiful parts of the UK. Isolated from the buzz and busy of so many other parts of Britain here you can just sit, contemplate and soak up the raw beauty of your surroundings. Yes, I loved it here!Looking up Loch Maree from near Poolewe Scottish Highlands
Looking up Loch Maree from near Poolewe Scottish Highlands on a moody October day. Initially I saw no photograph here but as I settled into the view I started to see the mood, sombre as it was, starting to offer me a dramatic scene all about high mountains and deep lochs and for this I needed that moody, broody light.Kidwelly Castle Carmarthenshire
Kidwelly Castle in Carmarthenshire on a sunny June day. A popular and frequently visited castle it was built on a high ridge for obvious reasons and looks down to and all around the small town of Kidwelly. Well worth a visit both inside (albeit there will be commercial photography restrictions) and outside/underneath along the footpath following the stream in the valley below. That way you can photograph to your heart's content.Kidwelly Castle Carmarthenshire

Ogmore Castle, or more precisely the ruins of Ogmore Castle at Ogmore by Sea, on the River Ewenny, in South Wales on a sunny February. Whilst there is a 'very interesting' car park here (little room and a tidal river!) the castle, in the western section of the Vale of Glamorgan is well worth an explore. The river Ewenny runs alongside it with some rather fun stepping stones across it.Beaupre Castle near Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan, south Wales
Beaupre Castle near Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan, south Wales. The castle, more of a defensive manor house really, is near Cowbridge and stands surrounded by farmland. It is now a ruin and accessible via footpath - free to enter - and is well worth a visit - look out especially for the stone artwork above the main entrance!Beaupre Castle Vale of Glamorgan south Wales

The remote fortress of Carreg Cennen Castle, in the western Brecon Beacons, Carmarthenshire, near the tiny hamlet/village of Trapp. What a place to build a castle, overlooking a steep limestone cliff. This remote fortification has a very interesting history and, for me, always looks at its best from this viewpoint.Evening on Lake Windermere Lake District
Evening on Lake Windermere in the Lake District with two moored yachts and a sunset. Windermere of an evening can throw up all sorts of surprises if you are prepared to be patient but this absolutely bowled me over! I waited to see what would develop and when I was 'happy' with what I saw I fired away. I have framed the shot to seek to give equal spaces between the golden clouds at the top and their reflection at the bottom.Broad Haven South Beach South Pembrokeshire
Broad Haven South beach on the south Pembrokeshire coast in May showing an orange life belt and sand dunes. This beautiful beach can be reached by taking the paths along the Bosherston Lily Ponds and down onto the broad sandy expanse. The walk is worth it in any weather.Manorbier Beach South Pembrokeshire Coast
The beach at Manorbier on the south Pembrokeshire coast, a popular location for surfers. Manorbier has a large beach and cliffs either side make it feel more like a cove. Popular in season the beach becomes much quieter out of season and is a perfect place for a stroll, connected on both sides to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.Lake Windermere at Low Miller Ground Lake District
Lake Windermere at Low Miller Ground Lake District on a sunny May afternoon. The whole National Park was granted UNESCO World Heritage Status in 2017 and has so much to offer but, at the end of a busy day I really love to retreat to this spot and just take in the views on offer. It is relatively undiscovered and provides a great bolthole from the masses of visitors milling around Bowness and Ambleside.Port Eynon Beach Gower South Wales
Port Eynon Beach Gower South Wales on a cold, windy, March but well worth it Winter day. In the summer the beach is often overrun with visitors and holiday makers but in the winter it all but closes down. The Gower peninsula is an AONB, or Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and well worth a visit or two - or more!Pobbles Bay Gower South Wales on a windy day
Pobbles Bay on the Gower peninsula South Wales on a windy day with waves hitting the cliff rocks. Pobbles Bay is just east of Three Cliffs Bay and when the tide is in is cut off from it. Gower, maybe more so around its southern edge, has an amazing coastline and is well worth exploring. The whole peninsula is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
