Oakworth station was originally opened for passengers on 15th April 1867, and for goods traffic on 1st July 1867. Eventually coming under British Railways ownership it was closed to passenger traffic on 1st January 1962, and to goods traffic on 18th June 1962. The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway preservation society took over the station and it was eventually reopened for passenger traffic on 29th June 1968. The station has been lovingly restored to a vintage feel, with old enamel advertising boards and milk churns on the platform. The station is famously known for featuring in the 1970 film "The Railway Children".

Worsley Packet House
The Packet House in Worsley is a Grade II listed building dating from the eighteenth century. It was from the steps on the left side of the house in this photograph, that those wishing to travel on the Bridgewater Canal would board their vessel, after buying their ticket at the Packet House. Passenger services started on the Canal in 1769 and by 1781 there was a daily service between Manchester and Worsley. A slight vignette is added for effect.

The quaint and pretty village of Dent in Cumbria, with it's whitewashed stone cottages and narrow cobbled streets. Prominent in this image is the memorial fountain dedicated to geologist Alan Sedgewick (1785-1873). Born in Dent he became professor of geology at Cambridge University, and was one of the most prominent geologists of his time.

Bristol gorillas.
In 2011 around Bristol city centre and surrounding areas, 61 life-sized decorated fibreglass gorillas were placed, and displayed for several weeks. The project was sponsored by Bristol Zoo, to highlight the very serious extinction threat facing primates in the wild, and also to celebrate the 150th birthday of the zoo. At the end of the display period the gorillas were auctioned for charity. This image shows a selection of some of the gorilla figures.

A night study of preserved steam locomotive 60009 Union Of South Africa simmering at the East Lancashire Railway in Lancashire. Affectionately known as just "number 9" by the enthusiasts, and designed by Sir Nigel Gresley, she is a sister locomotive to world steam speed record holder "Mallard", which is on permanent static exhibition at York Railway Museum. The wording of the front of the locomotive indicates that she is A4 class, and her base in steam days was Haymarket in Edinburgh, code 64B. From there she would be used to haul the prestigious none stop expresses between London and Edinburgh. Image was taken during an authorised night photo shoot.

Since the 1970s the town has developed a very Bohemian reputation, attracting an influx of artists, photographers, crafters, and alternative lifestyle practitioners. Sitting on top of a hillside, hundreds of feet above the market town of Hebden Bridge, it is one of the Pennines' most historic villages, and is often referred to as "the village frozen in time".

Through lush summer greenery, preserved steam locomotive Royal Scot class 46115 Scots Guardsman is seen crossing Whalley Viaduct in Lancashire. Known locally as Whalley Arches, the viaduct has 48 spans crossing the River Calder. It is 605 metres long, and was constructed between 1846-1850. 46115 Scots Guardsman was withdrawn from British Railways service in January 1966 and is one of only two of a class of 71 locomotives to survive into preservation, the other being class leader 46100 Royal Scot.

The Mayflower was a ship which left Plymouth, England, in 1620. It carried a group of families known as the Pilgrim Fathers, who left England in search of the "new world". The Mayflower dropped anchor after ten weeks at sea near the tip of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in November 1620. This replica of the Mayflower is on display in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

The White House pub sits on bleak windswept moorland on the Pennine Hills, straddling the border of Lancashire and Yorkshire. A former coaching house, the pub dates back to 1671, and at 1,300 feet above sea level, it is open to the harshest of winter elements. This area is very popular with walkers, and in cold weather the pub has a very welcoming blazing log fire, a good selection of ales, and delicious food.

The Pemaquid Point Light is a historic U.S. lighthouse located in Bristol, Lincoln County, Maine, at the tip of the Pemaquid Neck. The lighthouse sits on a peninsula where interlaced streaks of granite and black lava produce some of Maine's most dramatic shoreline.

The picturesque church of St. John the Baptist in the Wilderness sits in a wooded valley at the small village of Cragg Vale, in the Calderdale district of West Yorkshire. The church was constructed in 1838 to replace a smaller church on the site. The church is the site of a Commonwealth war grave.

Lytham windmill and old lifeboat house.
Lytham Windmill is situated on Lytham Green in the coastal town of Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, England. It is of the type known as a tower mill and was designed for grinding wheat and oats to make flour or bran. Since commercial milling on the site ceased in 1921 the mill has belonged to the town and is operated by Fylde Borough Council, who open it to the public during the summer. The mill also contains a museum run by the Lytham Heritage Trust which explains the history and practice of flour milling.
Upper Belvedere Palace, Vienna
Prince Eugen of Savoy who defeated the Turks in 1683, commissioned the two Belvedere palaces (Upper and Lower) with the money he received as reward for his victories during the Spanish Succession. The payment allowed him to carry out one of the most ambitious building projects ever undertaken by a private individual. The palaces were built by Lucas von Hildebrandt in 1714-23 as a summer residence for the prince, and are an outstanding example of Baroque style. The domed copper roofs resemble the shape of Turkish tents as a symbolic reflection of Prince Eugen's victory.
St. Michael and All Saints church, Hubberholme
The mainly 12th century church stands by the River Wharfe in Yorkshire's Langstrothdale Valley. It was built on the site of a forest chapel. Inside is a beautiful wooden rood loft which escaped Elizabeth 1's orders to destroy all such objects. The pews, choir stalls and chairs were made by Thompson of Kilburn, famed for his mouse trademark. Mouse carvings can be found in many places within the church. The church and village pub, The George Inn, were frequented by novelist J.B Priestley whose ashes are buried in the churchyard.

The 400 year old George Inn is located in the small hamlet of Hubberholme, in the Langstrothdale Valley area of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, England. Until 1754 the building was the vicarage for the nearby church of St. Michael and All Angels, and since that time time there has been an ongoing tradition of a candle burning in the pub window whenever it is open.

St. Leonards church at Chapel-le-Dale, Yorkshire
St. Leonards tiny 17th century church is in the small wooded hamlet of Chapel-le-Dale, near Ingleton, Yorkshire. It is a grade 2 listed building. Inside the church is a white marble plaque which reads: To the memory of those who through accidents lost their lives, in constructing the railway works, between Settle, and Dent Head. This tablet was erected at the joint expense of their fellow workmen and the Midland Railway Company 1869 to 1876. This is a reference to the men and their families who lived, worked, and died in appalling conditions during the building of the famous Settle to Carlisle railway.

Preserved steam locomotive 46115 Scots Guardsman is crossing Ribblehead viaduct, heading north to Carlisle. The viaduct is a grade 2 listed structure, and carries the famous Settle-Carlisle railway across Batty Moss in the Ribble valley. Constructed between 1870-1875, it is 440 yards long, 104 feet high, and has 24 spans, and over 100 men lost their lives during it's construction.

Heritage diesel locomotives 47712 Lady Diana Spencer and 47593 Galloway Princess hauling charter special the "Staycation Express" across Ribblehead viaduct in Yorkshire, on the world famous Settle-Carlisle line. As the name Staycation Express suggests, this is to encourage people to holiday at home, and boost the leisure and tourism industries, which have been badly impacted by Covid-19. The train is running three times daily between Skipton and Appleby during the summer holiday season.

The Hung Drawn and Quartered pub in London
The Hung Drawn and Quartered pub stands on the edge of London's square mile business district. The name is a reminder of the often gruesome history of London, and a plaque on the wall in the words of writer Samuel Pepys describes an execution at Charing Cross, the unfortunate victim being dispatched in the manner from which the pub takes it's name. The pub is popular with office workers from the business district, and tourists.
Olde Trip To Jerusalem pub, Nottingham
Dating back to 1189, the Olde Trip to Jerusalem inn in Nottingham claims to be the oldest in England. The building rests against Castle Rock, upon which Nottingham Castle is built. Folklore has it that crusaders en route to the crusades stopped of at this inn for ale, hence the reference to Jerusalem in the name.

Longstone Lighthouse was completed in 1826 and stands on Longstone Rock in the Farne Islands, off the Northumberland coast in the north east of England. The Farne Islands are famous for their colonies of nesting seabirds and grey seals. Note the group of seals on the rocks in the foreground of the picture.
