Through lush summer greenery, preserved steam locomotive Royal Scot class 46115 Scots Guardsman is seen crossing Whalley Viaduct in Lancashire. Known locally as Whalley Arches, the viaduct has 48 spans crossing the River Calder. It is 605 metres long, and was constructed between 1846-1850.
46115 Scots Guardsman was withdrawn from British Railways service in January 1966 and is one of only two of a class of 71 locomotives to survive into preservation, the other being class leader 46100 Royal Scot.

A night study of preserved steam locomotive 60009 Union Of South Africa simmering at the East Lancashire Railway in Lancashire. Affectionately known as just "number 9" by the enthusiasts, and designed by Sir Nigel Gresley, she is a sister locomotive to world steam speed record holder "Mallard", which is on permanent static exhibition at York Railway Museum. The wording of the front of the locomotive indicates that she is A4 class, and her base in steam days was Haymarket in Edinburgh, code 64B. From there she would be used to haul the prestigious none stop expresses between London and Edinburgh.
