Understory of the Temperate Rainforest, British Columbia, Canada

The temperate rainforest consists of a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees which grow thickly enough to create a green-tinged world and strongly enough that the trunks reach tremendous heights and dimensions with an open feel under the canopy, yet at the ground level many low plants such as ferns grow at the ever-damp ground level. The light and texture is quite beautiful. Photograph taken in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada

Some mornings in winter, the cool damp air mingles an early ground mist with the swirling fog, allowing sun rays to penetrate in patches, bringing momentary patterns of light to lighten the ground.
