Lake Rotoiti, Nelson Lakes, New Zealand

Lake Rotoiti, is a lake in the Tasman Region of New Zealand. It is a substantial mountain lake within the borders of Nelson Lakes National Park. The lake is fed by the Travers River, water from the lake flows into the Buller River. The lake is surrounded by beech forest and is 269 ft deep. Saint Arnaud is a small community at the northern end of the lake. There are water taxis which run an ad hoc transport service, year round, during daylight hours, stopping off for certain walks or justoffering tours of the lake itself, this was a beautiful autumnal day out where we had a picnic.

The site of Exeter Cathedral and the area around about has been the heart of Exeter since Roman times. Exeter Cathedral is a stunning building, its proper name is the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter. The present building was completed by about 1400, and has several notable features, including an early set of misericords, an astronomical clock and the longest uninterrupted medieval stone vaulted ceiling in the world. The Great West Front was added in 1342, this was richly coloured when completed.

The moorland and surrounding land has been protected by National Park status since 1951. Dartmoor National Park covers 368 sq miles The granite which forms the uplands dates from the Carboniferous Period of geological history. The landscape consists of moorland capped with many exposed granite hilltops known as tors, providing habitats for Dartmoor wildlife. The highest point is High Willhays, 2,037 ft above sea level. The entire area is rich in antiquities and archaeology.

It lies on the famous Abbot’s Way which is a 23 mile monastic route across Dartmoor that the monks of Buckfastleigh followed to take them to Tavistock Abbey. The whole route is marked with stone crosses, some of it is on well established tracks and other parts across open moorland.

Walk on a beautiful sunny day on Dartmoor, but barely half way through our walk it started to rain. We still made it to the top of Bray Tor and Widgery Cross. The River Lyd rises at Lyd Head on Dartmoor, Devon, runs through Lydford Gorge, the deepest gorge in the South West and then flows into the River Tamar near Lifton.

The impressive ride stands over 100 feet high & is located at Pier Approach. You can get some great shots across Bournemouth & the bay from the gondolas. Introduced to experience panoramic views of the resorts award-winning seafront the Bournemouth Big Wheel returned to Bournemouth for English Tourism Week. The big wheel boasts 27 gondolas & replaced the Vistarama Baloon which was an attraction in Bournemouth Lower Gardens. I find it quite abstract when photographed in part & beautiful.

A close up of Virginia Creeper with a blue tint, i liked the idea of changing this lovely Virginia creeper to blue, the Latin name, Parthenocissus quinquefolia, it is a species of flowering vine in the grape family, Vitaceae. It is native to eastern and central North America, but grows in Europe, including England very happily.

Both bridges are north of the Hamoaze the estuary that the Tamar feeds into & the Torpoint

It has a central span of 335 metres & two side spans of 114 metres, It is part of the A38, a major cross-country road that runs across Cornwall & Devon & lies immediately north of the Royal Albert Bridge, a significant railway bridge designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel that opened in 1859. Both bridges are north of the Hamoaze the estuary that the Tamar feeds into & the Torpoint Ferry

A changeable afternoon, at the Cheesewring formations, on the eastern side of Bodmin moor, Cornwall. This time standing on top of one of the granite formations. The Cheesewring is a granite tor, a natural geological formation. The name derives from the resemblance of the piled slabs to a cheesewring, a press device that was once used to make cheese.

Autumn on the River Tamar, Devon. The Tamar, is a river in south west England, that forms most of the border between Devon and Cornwall. The Tamar's source is less than 3.7 miles from the north Cornish coast, but it flows southward for 61 miles to Plymouth Sound. After coming out of Victoria Station in London, I notice the Nova building, towering above the beautiful building on the right. I liked the juxtaposition of these three buildings with the compressed perspective of a telephoto lense. The Nova occupies an entire block, comprises of two office buildings, designed by PLP Architecture and a residential building by Benson & Forsyth. It was voted Carbuncle of the year 2017, a worthy title in my mind, although. it is strangely intriguing to look at and an assault on the senses at the same time.. The Pigeon was an added bonus, and luckily captured at the right time.

Derwent Water, is one of the principal bodies of water in the Lake District National Park, Cumbria., north west England. The lake occupies part of Borrowdale and lies immediately south of the town of Keswick. It is both fed and drained by the River Derwent. The Lake approximately 3 miles long by 1 mile wide & is some 72 feet deep. There are several islands within the lake, one of which is inhabited. The lake is just a short walk from Keswick town along well maintained footpaths. The most popular way to enjoy the beauty of the lake, other than by walking the paths around its shores, is to board one of the Keswick Launches which operate round the lake. The main boat landings are just a 10 minutes walk from the centre of Keswick town.

It is surrounded by fells, notably the High Stile range to the south west, Robinson to the north-east, Fleetwith Pike & Haystacks to the south-east & Grasmoor to the north west.

The original chapel was consecrated in 1507, while the present building dates from 1840, and was restored in 1930. There is a stone tablet set into the window sill of a south window as a memorial to Alfred Wainwright, the famous walker and author of guidebooks.

Now, however, it has been closed and is now up for sale to a developer, bringing to an end a long history of wool processing at this site..The Lamellion depot handled around one million kilos of wool from some 1500 producers around Devon and Cornwall.

Inside the driver's compartment of the steam train, called Braveheart, 75014 BR Standard Class 4-6.0. Built in December 1951 in Swindon. Withdrawn by British Railways in 1966. When it was sent for scrap. It rotted in Barry scrap yard for 14 years, was bought as a wreck in 1981, by a 4 man syndicate based on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. They bought it back to steam in 1994 & they sold it in 2002 to Dartmouth Steam Railway & River Boat Company.

Looking over the river Duddon, towards Black Beck and Hinning house, Seathwaite, a grey wet afternoonn, but still so beautiful. The Duddon river rises at a point 1,289 feet above sea level near the Three Shire Stone at the highest point of Wrynose Pass. The river descends to the sea over a course of about 15 miles before entering the Irish Sea at the Duddon Sands.
